English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
Chemeketa offers day and evening classes to improve your ability to understand, speak, read or write in English.
How We Improve Your English
Beginning through advanced level ESOL classes are offered in –
- Reading
- Writing
- Listening
- Speaking
- Grammar
- Pronunciation
- Technology
In addition to classes, ESOL students have access to workshops, advising and language and computer labs. Non-credit students must pay a non-refundable $105 fee when they register each term.
Books and parking are not included in the registration fee. Students must buy their textbooks and parking permits.
Students are required to participate in an orientation. To learn more about program requirements and how to enroll, call the ESOL office at 503.399.5224.
ESOL instruction is also offered at our Yamhill Valley Campus and Woodburn Center.

Evening Classes
- Monday-Thursday, 6-8:50 pm
Language Lab (Room 108/109)
- Monday and Tuesday, 10 am-8:30 pm
- Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30 am-5:30 pm
- Friday, 8:30 am-12:30 pm
Tutoring Hours in Language Lab
- Monday-Thursday, 11 am-1 pm & 3-5 pm
- Friday, 9 am-12 pm
*Please note there may be CASAS testing in the Language Lab, so it may not be available

HOW TO ENROLL
Entry placement is determined by testing. If you are a new student, you must come into test at the ESOL Office, Bldg.22, Rm.100 on the Salem campus.
To set up a testing appointment please call our office at 503.399.5224.
Testing may take up to three hours and can be split between two days if needed. A Testing/Application fee of $25 is charged to applicants seeking to enroll in the ESOL program.
After you have completed testing, you will be assigned an ESOL level based on the following skills –
- Reading
- Writing
- Listening
- Speaking
New students will be contacted to join the ESOL program as space is available at their level. Students are required to participate in an orientation.
