Combining key word phrases - page 1

In the first tutorial you learned how to search using multiple key words. When you search the Web using two or more words, the search engine looks for Web pages that all contain the words you search for, but sometimes the words appear in different parts of the page and may lead you to pages that do not have the information you're looking for.

If you want to search for a specific phrase, you can do so by using quotation marks. For example, instead of searching for the individual words "evergreen" and "trees" search for the phrase "evergreen trees."

A very effective search method is to combine phrases with other keywords. In the following exercise you will learn how to combine phrases with keywords to search more effectively.

Let's try it out: In the example below you will search for the individual words: keyboarding practice for ESL students. Take a look at the results page, then try placing quote marks around the phrase "keyboarding practice" to see if you get different results. [NOTE: After you try the first search, click the [1] above to return to this page.]
