Week 1- What did you learn?
This part of the week's course will help you tie all the pieces together.

Directions for Web Board: There are two sets of conferences: field trips and discussions. Post all of your field trip summaries in the field trip conference, so everyone can see where you have been and what you learned. You can actually add the web address beginning with http:// and WebBoard will automatically make it a link for you, when you post the message. If others click on it, the web site will open in a separate window, so they can see what you are talking about. This is also a good way to add new web sites for all of us to visit.

In the discussion conference, I have listed some of the topics. Just click REPLY HERE and reply to answer any of the questions. Everyone must add their 2 cents to the discussion. (20 points) You don't have to read the textbook first to jump in here. This is a chance for students to ask questions about the topic, tell what works for them and what doesn't. Here I can get a sense of what works for you and what doesn't, so we can customize the instruction to your needs.

Homework Folder: Once you have logged in to WebBoard - the classroom area, I will create your own personal private homework folder. You will see only yours at the top of the page. It will be labeled with your first name, then homework folder. Mine would be Lucy's Homework Folder. I know that this is really a conference, but I have been teaching soooo long that I am still stuck on the image of student folders!

This is a place for private communication between you and me. A place for personal comments and questions and for grades. To enter a message here, click on POST. Any private comments that I have for you will be posted here and you can do the same for me.

Assignments for this week:

Discussion - 20 pts. Remember the first one who begins the discussion gets Bonus Points!

Do Chapter 1 Profile online and send it to your instructor: lucy@chemeketa.edu

Read Quick Start, Chapter 1 and pp. 24-30 of Chapter 2.

Field Trip Folder: Summarize and share your field trips in the Wk 1 Field Trip folder. Where did you go and what did you learn? You can include places not assigned, but that you found helpful. You can also reply to someone else's comments on the field trips. We may each get different ideas from the same field trips. - 100 pts.

Note: Copying from someone else's field trip will result in negative points. Although we may all go on the same field trip, we each have our own perspective and the learning is individual.

However, after posting your results of your field trip, commenting on someone else's field trip will get you bonus points! The idea is to build collective knowledge.

Once Week 1 is over. I will move the Field trip conference to the bottom of the page and make it read only, which means that if you are late, you will not be able to put anything into this conference. So don't be late or you will be locked out!

Orientation Quiz - No points quiz. This is just a chance to practice an online quiz without fear of penalty. Since I can see the results, I know who has read the orientation and understood the information. If I find that you have not done the orientation, I will refer you back to this area and not answer questions pertaining to this until you have completed this assignment. You may take the quiz as many times as you want.
