Week 4 - Weekly To Do List

Directions for having a discussion online

Hooray! The discussions are going great. You are responding to each other as well as to the questions. Keep up the good work. .

If you want to add your own discussion question, then you can post. Otherwise, what? You've got it. REPLY.

Discussion

Here are Week Fours's discussion questions.

What are your favorite ideas for integrating the Internet with your classroom?

What are some of your favorite sites and why?

You are going to have a chance to create a classroom web page the EASY way - using a template. The focus is on the content. What classroom project would you like to highlight? What favorite link would you like to share?

Give us your ideas and observations in the conference in Week 4 discussion.

TRG = Textbook Reading Guide

See TRG, your Textbook Reading Guide, who will tell you what pages to read in your textbook. in Chapter 8.

Activities

Now is the time that many of you have been waiting for--the opportunity to build your own classroom web page. To make things easy, Scholastic provides a template for you to use, plus it will host your site for free! Free's a good price. That means that you will be able to use this site after this class is over.

Assessment criteria:

Goal is to provide an Educational (training) Web page. The focus in on educational content, not on the programming of the site. You may use resources provided by Scholastic or provide your own images. In the conference area, I have posted links to student Web Page samples from last term.

Here is your checklist for an exceptional web page:

1. Personalize your home page in these four items.

  1. Welcome message Headline
  2. Welcome message itself
  3. Class News Headline
  4. Class News itself

2. You must have personalized pages for each of the buttons on the left. Put your own content in :

1. Announcements
2. Homework
3. Booklists
4. Software lists
5. Online Activities and Class Projects
6. Important Links and Resources

Here are the step by step directions on how to use Scholastics HomePage.

Check the Coursework Calendar for due date.

Web Resources

One of my favorite web sites. This artist /creative writer has free materials for teachers. You can send for your free kit. Her site includes coloring pages, holiday ideas and multimedia audio - see the Hedgie gram and video - see the video of her reading the Gingerbread Baby and making gingerbread cookies. The only thing missing is the smell of ginger wafting from the oven. Yum!

Find out how she incorporates multimedia:

  • Audio - listen to the January Hedge-a-gram in either Media Player or
Real Audio and hear about Big Sparkle and Goldilocks and th 3 polar bears!
  • Video - Watch her read the Gingerbread Baby and find out why there are borders in her book. (Note: this may be slow on a dial up modem.)

Copyright Basics for Educators - Just a reminder. This page should be bookmarked by every teacher and school. I find that asking permission has gained me great benefits. If they say "No", then I am no worse off than before. As teachers we need to model appropriate and legal use.
