Project Introduction and DescriptionDemo: Teach an technology infused lesson Your final project is also your goal for this class. Every part of the course will help you towards the goal of being able to teach a technology infused lesson. You may choose a chapter from Part IV to use as part of your final presentation. Product: One 10-15 minute demo on an infused technology lesson. Format: VHS tape, CDVideo, DVD, PowerPoint with Video inserts Delivery: Mailed into me or delivered via campus mail to my office in Bld. 1. If using mail, send to: Cathie Whyte Due: Monday of finals week in my office. Late projects will not be accepted. FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions) Can you do it together in partners? Yes. As a matter of fact, I encourage this. Collaborative work is valuable. Both partners must be integrally involved in the process and demonstrate that each can integrate technology into the teaching and learning. Can you set up a private area on WebBoard for my partner and I to work on our project? Certainly. Just let me know who the partners are and what you want for the name of the conference. I will set up a private conference that only you and your partner will see. I will also enable chat in this area, so if you are both on at the same time you can have a chat together. Remember, the telephone is also considered a technology and works well as a brainstorming tool! How long does the video have to be? For an individual between 10 to 15 minutes. For a team, between 15 to 20 minutes. I am not grading on the time, but on the quality of the project. So, longer is not better. I want you to synthesis your thoughts within this time frame. Do I need to write a paper to go with it? No. I will use your NETS as well as your annotated bibliography as the written portion of this final. That will be enough writing! I am more concerned with the "doing". Project Ideas: Can I make a video of my fifth graders and me teaching them? Something that I could use next term for my teaching portfolio? Yes. I encourage you to pull the pieces together from all of your courses. The emphasis for all of these is on teaching and learning. The only difference in this course, is that I am asking you to demonstrate an infusion of technology to support the learning. Can I demo how the technology, like Accelerated Reader, motivates my reluctant readers? Yes. This is a good way to demo an infused technology model for the purpose of motivating students. What if I teach word processing? Would that be alright? You don't have to teach technology. Instead think of your students and what you want them to do. Maybe you want them to do a report. If so, you may want to require that they use the word processor. What criteria would you set up to do this? Would you require that they center the title, use bold, add a picture? Think of the product first and then demo how you would help the students use the word processor to complete their report. I am studying about the Oregon standards in my other classes. Can I build this into my project? Yes. You may want to access the standards on a web site or on a CD. The Flying Rhinoceros curriculum trunk comes with a notebook and CDROM. This resource is available on campus in the Education classroom. This is your NETS list that you chose at the beginning of term and the updates demonstrating what you learned throughout the term leading to completing these competencies. You do not have to complete each competency. This is more about the progress towards these standards. For a sample of a bibliography, look at the references at the end of each chapter in your book. The difference between the book and your bibliography is that you will write a sentence or two about each item reminding yourself why you chose it and why it is important. This list may include books, magazines, computer software, web sites, etc. It's your choice of what you want to include. Delivery: You may post your NETS in the NETS conference.and annotated bibliography in the bibliography conference. It's not pretty, but it does work. You may attach a file to a message in the final NETS conference area and bibliography conference. This keeps the formatting of your original word processing document and you can include pictures in here as well. Note: Use Microsoft Word ONLY. Microsoft Works or Word Perfect will not work. You can get FREE word processing software on the IT disk at the bookstore ($3.00 for CD)
You could turn in a printed copy.
