Welcome to Ed 100! The original name of our course was "Introduction to Observation and Experience", which should give you a hint of how volunteering in the schools will play a major role in this class. Listen
to your instructor's accent. My name is Lucy MacDonald and I will be your instructor for ED 100. Although I didn't always know that I wanted to be a teacher, I did have early experience as the oldest of 5. I had to learn the difference between being bossy, leading with no one following and facilitating. Now, my husband says "Once a teacher always a teacher.", whether I am on a boat at the Great Barrier Reef, when a young man overhead me talking about study skills and came to ask for advice on how to pass his tests without being nervous to the seniors at my mother's place, where she sets up half hour appointments for computer tutoring, whenever I come! I have worked in schools both in the States and overseas.I grew up in bilingual school in New Hampshire, where I could have gone through graduate school and never have a class in English! I went to an unusual school, since our classes were in English, but the language of assemblies and on the playground was ??? Can you guess? It was French. My primary interests in the field of Education include student success and motivation.. I am also fascinated by our emerging knowledge of the human brain and the ways that knowledge can change and energize our schools and classrooms. Finally, I am excited about exploring the applications of technology to both K-12 and higher education. I have been working on a statewide and federal project called Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to use Technology. I love teaching online and am still learning how to include the human interface of body language and audio. You will see me using "smilies" like this winking smile ;-) or phrases, like *grinning* or *just kidding.* or LOL (laughing out loud). It is important to me that you feel your time and energy has been well spent taking this class, so please feel free to let me know how I can help make the course more understandable or manageable.
