Learning Assignment:  Ecological Footprint

An ecological footprint can be defined as how much land and water area is needed to support what you use and throw away. Go to the web sites below and take the quiz (answer honestly) to find out about your ecological footprint. There are two sites for the quizzes, and I have provided other sites for additional current statistics. As a starting point I am providing you information taken from the July 2001 National Geographic.

Number of acres used per person

U.S.A.     30.2 acres
Germany  15.6 acres
Brazil        6.4 acres
Indonesia  3.7 acres
Nigeria      3.2 acres
India          2.6 acres

Please look at different websites to find current statistics on these countries to see the differences even a few years can make. What can you do to decrease your ecological footprint? Be prepared to participate in a class discussion tomorrw.
