Summary
The Career Development Facilitator Training is an intensive, 120-hour training
program designed for individuals delivering career-related services in:
- High School Counseling and Career Centers
- School-to-Work Programs
- College Counseling and Career Centers
- One-Stop Career Centers
- Employee Assistance Programs
- Offender Employment Programs

- Staffing Agencies
- Social Service Organizations
- Workforce Development Agencies
- TRIO Programs
- Private Practice
- Human Resources and Staff Development Departments

The field of career development is growing, and so is the demand for
well-trained, certified staff. Contemporary career programs require staff
with current knowledge and skills. Individuals delivering career services
increase their value to their employers and those they serve by updating
knowledge and skills critical to job performance and program success.
This training is endorsed by the National Career Development
Association, the National Employment Counseling Association, and the
National Association of Workforce Development Professionals.

Class Schedule/Details
Both EVENING and WEEKEND classes are offered on a regular college term schedule.
These classes are targeted towards professionals who are already working
in the career development field, and who want to pursue the GCDF
credential. Each term builds upon the term before, thus these
courses need to be taken sequentially.

Term 1: |
Career Development Facilitator I
CG217 |
4 credits
Presents overview of career development theory and practice.
includes application of the career development facilitator's
role/scope of practice, career development theorists, adult
development and legal/ethical issues. Covers working with
diverse populations, the career development interview, and basic
helping skills.

Term 2:
|
Career Development Facilitator II
CG218 | 4 credits
Presents overview of
assessment and labor market information in relation to career
development. Includes hands-on use of formal and informal
assessment instruments, selection criteria, administration, and
interpretation. Covers assessment of
obstacles/opportunities and research of career and labor market
information.

Term 3: |
Career Development Facilitator III
CG219 | 4 credits
Presents overview of career
decision-making and goal setting, job search strategies and
techniques, and workshop facilitation skills. Includes
program design and promotion.

Weekend classes begin Fall, 2004 and meet MONTHLY on Friday/Saturday. The Friday class times are from 1-7:30 p.m. and
Saturday class times are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dates for next
year's class are:
October 8/9, November 12/13, December 3/4, January 7/8, February
11/12, March 4/5, April 8/9, May 13/14, and June 3/4.
Evening classes begin Fall, 2005 and meet WEEKLY on Tuesday evenings from
3:30-7:30 p.m.
All classes are held at the Salem Campus of Chemeketa Community
College, 4000 Lancaster Drive NE in Salem, Oregon.
Both classes have a minimum class size of 20 students.

Darlene Fritz is the instructor for the evening CDF classes, and has
been teaching the CDF classes for the past five years. She has a Master's Degree in
Career Development from John F. Kennedy University, and has been
working in the career development field for 16 years. She is a
nationally registered CDF instructor, a member of the National
Career Development Association, and Past President of the Oregon
Career Development Association. |

Krissa Caldwell and Beth Salisbury are the instructors for the weekend CDF classes.
Krissa has been teaching the CDF classes at Chemeketa for
three years.
She has a Master's Degree in Adult Education from Oregon State
University, and currently works for the Oregon Department of
Community Colleges and Workforce Development. She is a
nationally registered CDF instructor. |

Beth has been teaching
the CDF classes at Chemeketa for two years. She has a Master of
Arts in Teaching from Willamette University, and has 10 years
experience doing
career development and community education work with youth. Beth is
an NCDA-trained CDF instructor. |

Global CDF Credential
The Career Development Facilitator became a national certification in
1997 through the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE) , an
affiliate of the National Board of Certified Counselors. By 2001, this
credential became a global certification, as several countries began
implementing CDF training programs.
The CDF Training offered at Chemeketa Community College is approved
by CCE and meets the training requirement for Global CDF Credentialing.
